When I was 18, I was caught at a fraternity event in North Carolina - this was shortly after Dec. 1, 1999. I was charged with a criminal misdemeanor and had the charges dismissed after electing to "defer prosecution" and completing hours of community service and paying fines. At that time I did not have money for a lawyer and did not have a clue about expungement. I am now an academic climber/proffesional and find it embarrassing and a pain in the neck to report my charges when applying for licensure or admission into higher-degree acquiring programs. This has been my one and only run in with the law, with the exception of ONE parking ticket. Is expungement still possible, if so what is the cost and how long does it take...how do you go about getting it done...otherwise will the misdemeanor always be on my record?
Clueless and contemplating law school just to figure this out...
