Default Re: Will Filing for Bankruptcy Stop Foreclosure

A chapter 7 bankruptcy will delay a foreclosure that is not yet compete; but it will not stop the foreclosure from proceeding once the automatic stay expires or if the lender gets the stay lifted.

If you instead file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, it is more likely that you will be able to keep the home -- if that's your goal.

You should consult a bankruptcy lawyer to discuss your options and best path forward.
