Default What Happens if Your Ex-Roommate Leaves Furniture After Moving Out

My question involves personal property located in the State of: Nevada.

My roommate is not allowed in the apartment after I got a restraining order since he threatened to kill me. The lease is going to be up on the 20th and I plan to have the apartment inspected and return my keys on the 19th.

My roommate was served on March 20th, he has come twice with a civil standby to get his some of his stuff (during which time he also took my stuff which I will be going to civil court over along with back payment of rent). He still has large pieces of furniture still in the apartment, I can't afford to store it or move it other than to the dumpster. If the furniture is left in the apartment the apartment complex will charge $80 an hour to move it plus storage/disposal fees. Police tell me not to contact him but also tell me that I can't destroy or get ride of his stuff or I'll be in legal trouble. I'm trying to avoid being counter-sued because I got ride of his property if he doesn't come pick it up before the 19th. What is my legal obligation to his stuff?

If you do not have a means of communicating with this person, you're in a difficult position. Will the police pass along a message?

It's not their job, so they don't have to help, but that doesn't mean that they can't help you out.
