If you are a month-to-month tenant, then the landlord must give at least fifteen days notice of a rent increase. If the fifteen days notice ends after the next rent payment is due, then the rent increase takes effect at the end of the next rental period -- so if rent is due on May 1, and notice is given on April 23, the increase becomes effective on June 1. (More info from legal aid). You, yourself, can give proper notice to end the lease before the rent increase becomes effective.
Thank you so much for your response. I am having trouble seeing where it says exactly this and not that in 15 day the rent can be whatever he wants it to be. Please clarify.
24 hour notice it is. I’m not thrilled but looks like I haven’t got a choice.
I appreciate the help understanding this.
