Thanks for the reply. No one expects to get rich and, actually, there is a willingness to settle for much lower than the actual damages because who wants to extend the court process. The main concern is whether or not the tenant can easily accidentally forego any rights or screw themselves over while speaking to the attorney.
If the tenant keeps the conversation to what they want, no they are not likely to screw themselves over. If they are foolish enough to start arguing over the details of the matter (other than what they want) then that is when they might mess themselves up.

How did the attorney communicate with you? In writing, by email, etc? You should reply to the attorney in kind, and stick strictly to the facts of what you want.
