Default How do Taxes Affect a Tuition Reimbursement Repayment

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: california

i started tuition reimbursement in 2016 at 15k/yr, and have received it for 2017 and 2018.

if i leave my employer before the end of my last class + 24 months ( 2 years), then i have to repay back

...the amount that i received is not the full 15k because of taxes. it's probably more like 10k after taxes (and 5K nontaxed because of california law)

my question is...am i supposed to pay back the full 15k or just the amount i received, about 10k?

Probably every dime. The taxes were deducted for your benefit no your employer's.

You will get a tax credit when you have to bay it back though.
