My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Virginia
To keep this as short as possible, I worked for a company and on my last day I was asked to leave the building. I was not told to report back the next day and I assumed that this meant that I was being fired, so I clocked out and left. I went through the unemployement process and when I had the intial phone call I was rejected after telling my side and it being determined that being asked to leave wasn't an official firing, but not coming back the next day was a formal quitting by myself.
Now, a few years later, I've been applying to work in Law Enforcement and when asked about previous job history I always put down quit for that specific job. I was informed by the background investigator that when they spoke to the former employer they were told that I didn't quit, but instead I was fired. Do I have enough reason to not only appeal from when I was denied unemployement, but also move forward in what seems to be slander since the former employer either lied to the unemployement to not pay me, or is lying now to try and make sure I do not get a job currently?
