    Default Verbally Abusive, Alcoholic Parent

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of Texas

My father is very often under the influence of alcohol and yells at me for 3-4 hours at a time after I come home from work at 9:30. He's been preventing me from completing my school work, and my grades have been suffering both from that and from exhaustion. I often don't get to sleep until 1 or 2 in the morning, and I have to wake up at 5 to try and keep up with all of my chores and my schoolwork while he's not awake.

I tried to address it with my mother (who's almost always at work or on business trips) but she thinks that I'm being dramatic. She told my father about what I discussed with her, and he told me I was damaging their relationship on purpose and that I'm a horrible person. He went on to insult me over a variety of things, such as my religious and political beliefs, my grades, and other unrelated topics and has been trying to make me feel worthless. He also knocked some stuff over in my room, and broke a couple of my favorite glass figurines. I'm scared that he could reach the point of hurting me, since he has no problem striking my pets and throwing temper tantrums when they do something to upset him.

He mostly pretends I don't exist, except for to yell at me, or when there are other people around/we're in public. When I try to address things that bother me, he'll tell me that they never happened. He's been isolating me from doing things with friends, and I feel that I have nowhere to turn. My school counselors have been a great support, but they haven't really done anything about it. My father also plans to have me attend counseling "for misbehaving youth" this Wednesday, which interferes further with my schoolwork, and I have no need for it. I'm completely respectful (and honestly very terrified) of my father, but he tells me that I'm having an attitude with him no matter what I say or do, and tells me that I said and did things that never happened.

Do I have legal options? If another family is willing to take me in, can I legally stay there, or could my parents press charges against them? Can other relatives gain my custody? Or am I stuck? Please help, I don't know what to do, and it will hurt my future significantly if my grades continue to suffer from this. God bless.

You need to go to counseling. If the counselor believes you are being abused. The counselor will call CPS.
