Default Home Invasion At A University Dorm

My son was at a college university with freinds and ended up stealing something out of someone's dorm, but returned the items though, the people are now pressing charges and now the college police want my son to give him a written letter or e-mail confessing to what happened and the officer claimed that if he didn't he would have a warrant out for his arrest, but if he turns in the letter confessing what happened, that he could talk to the Prosecutor and skip right to the trial and not have a warrant out for his arrest, should my son do this or not?

Police officers can lie, and do lie, in order to obtain confessions. A police officer's promise not to prosecute means absolutely nothing - a prosecutor can authorize charges no matter what the police promise.

What your son needs to do is "lawyer up". (Hire a criminal defense lawyer.)
