Default Is It Legal to Give Yourself a Tattoo

My question involves malpractice in the state of: New York

I was thinking about a purely hypothetical area of the law. It's illegal to give tattoos without a license in most (if not all) states, but as a hypothetical question, what if the "unlicensed tattoo artist" only "practiced" on themselves. Given the fact that someone giving themselves a tattoo is likely not something that would occur to the people writing the law, it seems likely that they didn't write an exception for unlicensed practice if one is "practicing as a tattoo artist" on oneself. Clearly, if such a loophole were to exist in the law, I couldn't possibly imagine that anyone would or has ever been prosecuted for this. But in theory, if no exception for "practicing on onself" were written in the law, would it be illegal on a hypothetical level?

P.S. Don't worry I've never done this and I'm not thinking of doing this. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this not to do it. It ALWAYS looks stupid and extremely poorly done, and it will be impossible to get rid of. Also, there's the risk of infection and other health-related issues as well as a result of the fact that the inks aren't designed for that purpose.

I'm not sure what your point is or if you are just trolling. But there is no law that prohibits you from defacing your own body. You just can't do it to somebody else unless you are licensed.

What is illegal in most states/localities is giving a tattoo to someone else unless you are licensed to do that. These laws do not typically prevent you from doing it to yourself.
