Question Out Of The Blue Paternity Order

A friend of mine just got served with a court ordered paternity test. He recalls that the woman on the papers was someone he had a very short relationship with back in 1998. The relations ended mutually and they went on with life. He has not spoken to this women since '98 and at no time over those years did she even mention a child let alone try to contact him. They haven't spoken. Now out of no where he is served with this...He doesn't deny that they had "relations" but he had no knowledge of a child ever.
He's in the military and currently pays child support for his 3 children from a previous marriage...

Does he have any rights? Will back support have to be paid for all those years if he is in fact the father? Is there anything to be said about her not mentioning anything all these years?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. He lives in Washington state and she is living in Oregan

    Sincerely,

    Does he have any rights?
Yes he has the right to take a DNA test to prove if he is the Father or not!

Will back support have to be paid for all those years if he is in fact the father?

    Quite possibly

Is there anything to be said about her not mentioning anything all these years??

Maybe but it wont change fact that if he is the Father he has a legal and morale obligation to pay support

The sad part in all paternity situations is the poor children that get caught in the middle
He has made it very clear that if he is the father he intends on paying support (not that he will have that choice) and trying everything in his power to be a part of the childs life from now forward.

What are the chances that he will be hit with back support for those years? Is there anything that he should be preparing for now in the event it comes back positive? Does she not have to make some type of effort to notify the alleged father before you can serve papers for a paternity test? Will the fact that she did not allow him to make that decision by telling him when she became pregnant or over the last 8 years help his case against back support?

I guess nobody but the mother can explain why she didn't say anything but I find it extremely unfair both financially and emotionally to not allow a person to make that choice of being in a childs life that they were part of creating.

I apologize for all the questions but I really would like to help my friend out in a situation that he truly is devasted about.

Thank you in advance for any answers you provide me.
