Default How to Divorce When You Live in a Different State Than Your Spouse

My question involves a marriage in the state of: Nebraska . I currently live in Pennsylvania and and need to , I guess get a divorce? My situation is somewhat complex as I was married for all of 45 some days in 2014 because I became ill shortly after the marriage and she left me because of that. I need to know how to get rid of her so I don't have issues with my taxes and other issues. I never proceeded with it because I didn't have the money and it didn't seem that big of a deal until now. I need to know the best way to get rid of her from.my life permanently. FWIW, I haven't spoken to her in over 2 years. Not a single word. What kind of info do you guys need yo help me out here? TIA...

You can file for divorce in PA.

    Title 23 § 3104. Bases of jurisdiction.

    (b) Residence and domicile of parties.--No spouse is entitled to commence an action for divorce or annulment under this part unless at least one of the parties has been a bona fide resident in this Commonwealth for at least six months immediately previous to the commencement of the action. Both parties shall be competent witnesses to prove their respective residence, and proof of actual residence within this Commonwealth for six months shall create a presumption of domicile within this Commonwealth.

I have no idea what that law quote you posted means. But I can file from PA? I have no idea where she is or how to contact her. Does that matter?

The law I posted simply states that since you have been a resident of PA for at least 6 months you can file in PA.

This is not going to be a do it yourself process for you. You are going to need a lawyer. The lawyer will be able to explain the steps you will need to take.

Many people will be able to handle this type of divorce without a lawyer; but if the language of the statute you quoted seems difficult to understand, it's a sign that the specific person in question will need legal assistance. That's not the only statute or court rule that applies to divorce proceedings.

How would I go about filing myself then? There is no kids or property involved just want it dissolved. I really can't afford a lawyer to do this so any assistance would be helpful. Can I do myself by getting forms from online like legal zoom or similiar?

Like Mr. Knowitall said and I implied, if understanding the statute that I quoted is beyond you this is not a do it yourself process for YOU.

Can you please just answer my question? Can I file myself on a site like legal zoom? I have the ability to do anything I put my mind too and I can't afford 1000s of dollars to get a divorce.
