Default Caught Shoplifting and Switching Prices

    Hello,

This is my very first offense.... I am 21 and I which tag on a purse that is cost around 130$ and had a co-work put down a lower price for me for two of the sweater. I was caught at the end for the purchase on the purse because the tag wasn't the purse brand. So in total it was 178$ Although I did left with two of the sweaters due to the fact the store was closing (I was working until closing). when I was call in for security I was caught on tape of whiching tag and a discount from the co-worker. the security was willing to return the purse and let me paid the rest of the two sweaters. The police give me a ticket of thief and now I have a letter going to court. My records are clean and I am scared to death right now I am a college student with no job and two kids living under my parents what should i do. I have the paperwork that I paid off the sweaters, I call in to pay off the ticket but its not issue after 10 days to be on the system. Please help me. Thank you.

Read this. You should consult a criminal defense lawyer in your state to discuss your options; your options will vary by jurisdiction.

Just realize even if this all "goes away" legally, the employer can still give any future reference the information that you stole from them as an employee. I wish you had thought of the consequences to you and your two kids prior to deciding to basically steal a purse (a non-needed item). You won't be eligible for unemployment benefits either.

    Consequences suck....

You just don't use that employer for a reference, but you do however have to explain the lapse in time.

Depending on the application questions and signature statement, failure to disclose could be considered lying such that if the employer did find out in the future, it would be considered 'good cause' for termination at that point. And honestly it always surprises me how small a world it can be and who knows someone who knows someone....

Very true, and I believe that there is also an employment data base that all employers do not comply with. https://www.hireright.com/

That is simply a background history checking company. They don't have a database of every employer someone ever worked for. When they get a request for job history they simply call the former employers that are listed. They also might find former employers if they run a credit check.

That is why I said not all employers comply with this system. Some do report, others do not. If your employer does report, and states that you stole or failed a drug test, it will be in there for your prospective employer to see.

I would say the vast majority of employer don't report to the for profit entity.

From what I can tell, employers that employ more then 50 employees, tend to report then not.

I would say 99 out of 100 employers that have less then 50 employees do not report.
