My question involves court procedures for the state of: New York and Ohio
I’m not proud of what I did and I’m deeply regretting it now. I’m trying to get legal advice on his topic.
I belong to public forum and one individual was extremely rude and obnoxious to grieving people on three occasions and I remembered their user name from those incidents and screenshot some of their mean responses as proof. From reading forum and participating it also stood out to me they made a post where they live (one of the biggest in USA) and mentioned how much they make and as it was a big number, I remembered it. I googled their user name and first result was their public social media account with their full name that matched their user name on the forum. I screenshot the photo I found on that website as well. Then made a post on the said forum and posted screenshoots of what that person said, photo and mentioned their full name, along with the city they live in. Inadded in the end “look them up and feel free to call”. L If you google their name and city there are probably 300 results and it’s impossible to find any more info. The “research” I did on this person was minimal and took me maybe 5 minutes. I said that I remember that this person makes x amount of money (I remember this from post they made few weeks ago) and is spoiled rich. The post was deleted by the website after 3 hours.
Now that person accuses me of “stalking” and thinks I somehow I did some deep research on them and want to go to their home and attack them! They contacted their attorney and said they are drafting subpoena to press charges. How can their lawyer agree this be stalking if I only wrote this (public information such as name) only once and this info was found with ease online? I can’t help but to remember some details they posted earlier, I remember details about other users on the forum because people share a lot of information and some of it just “sticks out”, especially that this user was standing out to me as a nasty individual on most occasions. Reading online forum and remembering some information isn’t stalking, is it?
I only commented on their actions in that one post and don’t plan on doing it again. That person isn’t computer savy and claims to have no social media and couldn’t figure out that their login name to forum matches their one social media account (first google result) and that’s why I found the info. Would the court allow to press charges against me and how do I defend? I kept reading that information on forum or social media is public, so how can their lawyer think I did something wrong? They act like I hacked that info but it’s easy to find... id appreciative any kind of advice and how long it can take to defend and what penalties I could incur... Should I get a Lawyer now or wait for the lawsuit? Can I quash the subpoena so my information isn’t published to them? thank you in advance
