Default Naturalization After a Deferred Sentence for a Criminal Offense

Hello my friend moved to the US in 1998. Got a work permit in 1998. Got married in 98. Got Greencard in 2002. Divorced in 2011. REnewed Greencard in 2012.
But in 2009, he received deferred adjudication and community supervision for 9 months. He has paid all his dues and has been good. Now with the new administration he is worried that he won't be able to apply for naturalization. He has never left the US since. He has 4 kids.
What are his chances of being deported?
Can he lose his green card?
Will he be able to get naturalized? He made one mistake and is regretful. He cannot afford an attorney. Just for I400 that price is pretty steep. Can he do his paperwork himself?
Please anybody with similar experience please share. Thank you.

OK, I got more info he was charged with theft 50-500 in Texas. Is that petty theft?
    Will he need a lawyer?
    Should he apply for naturalization?
or resign his fate to eventually being deported?

I hope somebody will respond please help. thank you.

It is in his best interest to consult an attorney specializing in immigration law with all of the information about his history.
