First of all, I am a 17 year old female, living in Florida. Yesterday(April 1) was my birthday. My partner and I have been together since June 4th, 2006, and to us, it is very serious and we love each other very much.
However, we've recently been engaging in sexual activity. To us, it is not important at all to our relationship. I've had many boyfriends, but this is my first serious relationship. I'm not like most of the teenagers I know. I never get intimate unless I feel I'm ready, and if I feel my partner cares about me. I was a virgin up until I met my current partner. At first I had no regrets about it, until someone threatened to report it to Florida Authorities. The age of consent in Florida is 18 for males above 24 and 16 for males under 24. The problem is that my partner is older than 24. I have a few questions regarding my case.
If authorities are notified, do I have a chance in saving him from penalties? Do the laws have exceptions based on the individuals case? My mother has given us consent, but I was told my dad needs to give us permission as well. Does parental consent even matter? I completely trust and love him, and he's never done anything to hurt me. He's given up so much to be with me, and has proven his love and loyalty too many times. Our relationship is harshly looked upon because of our age difference, but I ask you to be considerate as you read my post.
If my partner and I quit having sexual interaction completely until after I turn 18, can that save him? We've taken action to prevent pregnancy and STDs, it's completely consensual, it doesn't happen often, and our relationship is closed. If someone were to report it, how could it be proven that we had sex? Can't I say it was with an ex boyfriend? How much evidence is a legitimate amount to prosecute him? Is there anything I can do at all? Advice is greatly appreciated.
