    Default Can the Police Arrest You at Your Home for Shoplifting

    My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
    I shoplifted a couple of times at Marshals, I never been caught but I’m scared that they can recognize me and detain me I go there almost every weekend to buy clothes, I don’t shoplift any more it was horrible . Can they detain me if they recognize me?, can the police show up in my house ?

    Yes and Yes.

    Whether they WILL or not is up for grabs. But they CAN.

    In general if a store suspects you are shoplifting it is going to detain you at the time of the theft. However, the state may prosecute you any time within the statute of limitations for the crime, so the store could go the police any time during that period and report the shoplifting. If they do, the police could certainly show up at your home; whether they will do that or simply pick you up on a warrant at, say, a traffic stop just depends on the particular police force and how much time they have to track down alleged offenders of minor crimes.
