Default How Can an Adult Child Change Her Name After Her Mother and Stepfather Marry

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Ohio
We are not sure where to begin on this. My husband has been like a father to my daughter for many years. We recently just married and my daughter would like to surprise him by changing her last name also. Can anyone help with direction?

This would be an ordinary name change. It would have to go through court.

She’s an adult so the name change is up to her to do. She needs to file a petition in the probate court in the county where she resides (assuming she is in Ohio). The Supreme Court of Ohio has adopted a name change form she will use for that. She must also be sure that she has published her intent for the name change at least 30 days before the court hearing on the name change. She can Google the name of her county and "name change" and she may get specific instructions for the probate court her county. If she has any questions, she can ask a family law attorney. The process is pretty straightforward though.

I agree with everything except "family law attorney". I do not think that a family law attorney would be the expert in an adult, ordinary, name change.
