What makes you think it's illegal for a citizen to lie and mislead police?

Depending on the context of the lie or misdirection; it's likely to be obstruction, making false statements or some similar charge. I can't think of a situation off the top of my head where someone would choose to lie to or mislead the police that it wouldn't fall into one of those situations.

Your statements about what officers and citizens may do or not do are rather broad. There are certain situations in which a cop may lie to a citizen and in which a citizen may not lie to an officer; like with many things in the law, the details matter.

As for your question, the other main thing that officers generally may do that the general public cannot is violate traffic laws while pursuing a suspect and typically may park their police vehicles in places where the general public could not. Again, these are broad statements and the details do matter.

    What's your story?

Did the police catch you by doing something you thing they shouldn't have been allowed to do?

People accused of a crime very often lie their asses off when they're guilty. No?

Yup. Depending on the context, it could be a separate crime.

I'm sorry, I should elaborate. Cops are trying to solve crimes and they have "lying techniques" to assist them in their endeavor. Citizens who lie to the cops are trying to get out of the crime they committed (generally).

Kansas Statute number 21-5904. Interference with law enforcement.
