My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin

I recently was caught shoplifting $150 worth of merchandise from Sephora. I deeply regret this decision and am very afraid of the consequences. The LP at Sephora took me into the back room, explained that I would have to pay restitution to Sephora in a Civil suit. A police officer came and explained that this classifies as a Class A misdemeanor. but he decided to use his discretion and not give me a ticket since I have no criminal background whatsoever. I am still worried that he will choose to send me a citation and/or this will be on my record. He said he believes in warnings and second chances so decided to give me one. Can I still receive a citation for this crime if the officer changes his mind? how likely is that to happen?
