Default What to Do in Court for a Battery Charge

My son got arrested for battery/made Physical Contact and has an upcoming preliminary pre-trial. Is there any advise that you can provide. He has a public defender but we don't know what to ask or to expect. The judge did order him to counseling which he is receiving. What might be done or to expect for this misdemeanor Class 1 Battery Charge. Any help or questions we should as the public defender on his case would be extremely appreciated. THANK you.

He should speak with his lawyer about the facts of the offense, possible defenses and, if he's interested, what sort of plea bargains might be available, and whether he might be eligible for a non-criminal disposition such as diversion or a deferred sentence.
