Default Can a Child Be Held Liable for Parents' Debt

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: VA

So I have looked at this thread: https://www.expertlaw.com/forums/sho...=47981&page=2&

My question is, can a child be responsible for a parent's medical bills if a parent is claimed as a dependent on a tax return?

Provided, parent doesn't have any income or any financial support.

Thanks for all of your input and help.

Unless the child contracted with the provider to guarantee the payment, no. Claiming the parent as a dependent does not make the child a guarantor of the parent's debt.
