Default What to Do if You're Accused of Harassment

My question involves criminal law for the state of: virginia

I'm 19, and my friend is 16. We have been playing a game online for over a year and a friend of mine basically stole that years worth of work. He blocked both of us, even on Facebook. We decided to message a friend of his on Facebook asking if they can help us get in touch with him. Now he says he has filed harassment charges on both of us and "check the mail". How serious is this and can I beat this in court? We were never rude, we never threatened, and never meant to be of any anoyance.

    Probably just hot air.

I suggest you avoid this "child" and his friends and don't try to get in touch with him or them.

Besides, you're an adult. Quit playing with children on the internet.

    No good comes of it.

I'm pretty certain he actually did file, since he keeps telling us that he filed and it will be in the certified mail soon. Also he is 24 I believe. He is also in a different state, Kentucky I am pretty sure. But if he did file, would I have to go to court there, and can I beat this case?

Also I'm starting college and work 2 jobs since I was 16... I play at night in my free time!

When you are officially notified by the authorities that charges have been filed against you and there is a warrant for your arrest, there will be plenty of time to deal with it then.

Until then, tell him to pound sand.

Ok... but how do I deal with it? What should I expect? This type of charge can easily ruin my life.

"Pretty certain" means nothing. Until you get something in the mail ignore the person. If you get something the mail, answer it and you might want to take it to an attorney.

No one said don't play games - they said stop playing with children online. Maybe find a hobby that doesn't include children or disgruntled individuals.

There's nothing to "deal" with until you get some paperwork in the mail. Ok actually here's how you deal with it - block the 24 year old. Don't talk to him ever again. Stop communicating with the 16 year old. Move along with life.

EVEN IF he went to the police or the prosecutor, which is pretty unlikely even unto itself, if nothing more happened than you've said here there is EVERY likelihood that he was laughed out of their offices and told not to waste their time. He's blowing smoke, trying to get you upset, and he's succeeding. There's nothing to deal with until you're notified by the authorities that there is a charge against you, which is very unlikely to happen unless you have left out MAJOR parts of the story. Your life is not ruined. Stop letting him rent space in your head.
