    Default Reporting Confessions to Murder

I have information that someone I know has confessed to being involved in two murders. One of which took place more than 30 years ago. I know the method of the first murder and the town where it took place but not the identity of the victim although I have further information which may help with identity. Unfortunately I am not in a postion to give this information to local authorities as this is a family member and the wrath from the family would be huge. On the one hand I have trouble believing that this is true however on the other hand why would someone make such a confession (after having a few drinks but not being drunk) unless there was some validity to it? There are other things that do not add up that I could share but I really need advice. I have lived with this for about 1 1/2 years and it is driving me crazy. I worry that there is a family (or two) that is looking for closure. PLEASE HELP ME!

Hire a lawyer, turn your evidence over to the lawyer, and have your lawyer act as an intermediary with the police.

I wish hiring a lawyer was an option but due to my current financial situation it is not. I am wondering how I might search for further information so that I have solid evidence to be investigated. I know I could give a tip without anyone knowing who I am but I guess I need more info. I have searched the web for cold cases and even gone to the town to look at old newspapers. Do you think if I provided a tip with the information I have it would be taken seriously?

Many jurisdictions have anonymous tip lines. Investigate whether there is one where you live.
