OP, regarding your question "What on earth do I do now?" if you were indeed in law enforcement for 15 years, you would know that until you've been formally charged, there's really nothing you can do. And you should also know that if you ever do get charged, you should hire an attorney immediately.

Regarding whether or not a DA will charge based on her word alone, well, we can't possibly advise on that. How would we know? Besides, she may have more evidence than just her word, you don't know if she does, and we certainly don't.

Finally, we can't advise you on what to tell your wife and family should they find out about this. This is not a legal question.
