Regardless of whether it is right or not, it appears to be happening. How did the police/childrens services get involved? Did the dog break the skin when it bit? Did the dog have a history of biting? What happened with the wound in the 3 days between the bite and when you got your son medical assistance? Did you provide any wound care, cleaning/bandaging/etc..?

If you have actually been charged, it might be a good idea to get at least a consult with an attorney.

I would call a lawyer and find out how much it costs to retain him or her.

What did you do when the dog bit your child? Did you care for the bite at all? How did you treat it? When did you notice it was infected and when did you take him to the doctor?

Just because you and everyone else you know has been bitten by someone or something doesn't mean anything.

Could you perhaps explain why you still have this dog in your house?

The dog, by your own words, is still in your home?

    Why is that?

It does, really. It means that the dog somehow rates higher on the priority list than everybody else.
The OP said everyone he knows has been bitten by "a" dog - not the dog that bit the kid. That's how I took it. That in their lives they have been bitten by a dog at some point. I'm not sure what they're doing to dogs that they all get bitten though...

    My mistake - I misread.

    Apologies.

    But while we're here, storytime!

About three years ago an old schoolfriend of my husband's was frantic because the state (PA) had removed her children. She owned two dogs at the time and one of the dogs had bitten her several times and one of the children once. She did actually seek medical treatment but the state intervened and she was also told that in order to get the children back home, she had to get rid of the dog.

Her parental rights were terminated last Spring, and both children were adopted by their foster parents. These weren't young children, either - they're now 14 and 12.

    She still has the dog.

Do you know the dog that bit your child ? Did you ask the owner if the dog was up to date on shots? How long after the bite showed signs of infection did you take your child to the doctor ? What breed of dog bit your child ?
