    Default Wrongly Accused

My friend and I were wrongly accused by a store of shoplifting. We live in Michigan.
We left the store and walked around the mall for a while when security asked us to go back to the store. They searched our bags and apologized. Then the police called my mom (I am 17 and my friend is 16) and told her that they suspected us of shoplifting. They found clothes from that store at another store (and yes one of the many that we had gone to after that first store). Of course, no one saw us do anything. They just found a sensor in the pocket of the clothes we gave them to restock after trying them on. I found it too when I tried on the jeans. I didn't think anything about it. We went to the police station and gave a written statement that we didn't do it and talked to an officer. She didn't believe us and gave us a lecture on shoplifting, stealing, etc.
My question is this...what else am I obligated to do? If the police ask me to go back in for more questioning, do I have to go? Should I refuse? Insist on a lawyer? My parents say that it will be a detective if they ask us to go back in and that they would only be trying to get us to confess. What are my rights? I am scared to death that I will be arrested for something I DID NOT DO!

    Default Accused of Shoplifting

At 17, you are considered to be an adult under Michigan's criminal laws, so you would benefit from consulting a criminal defense attorney if the police again want to speak with you.
