    Default Renting Past the End of a Lease Term

    If a tenant continues to live in a rental property, pays rent, and the landlord continues to accept that rent, it does become a month-to-month lease.

    It may become a month-to-month lease depending on the lease provisions and any state/local laws on the issue.

    If the lease provides for automatic renewal, it can become a renewal for an additional lease term (e.g., a year).
