My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: ILLINOIS
So here's my situation. Me and my girlfriend and our 4 year old son have been living together since January of this year so about 6 months. Both of our names are on the lease at the apartment complex where we live. She has not paid any bills and only just recently started working two weeks ago however things have gotten quite bad between us and we are going to break up. Thing is she doesn't want to leave and go back to her parents, she wants me to leave instead.. Is there anything I can do here to keep my apartment? This girl has been harrassing and freeloading on everyone she lives with but I fear her name being on the lease keeps me from being able to do anything about keeping my apartment..
She will probably get a roommate to help her pay rent as she doesn't make much.
Do I just take all of my furniture, put it in storage and leave? I've heard a few people suggest not paying the utilities to cut off the electricity etc but not only do I want my credit to remain in good standing but well my son lives here and I don't want him to suffer one bit.
Please help.. If even just really creative suggestions to get her out of here! I really like my apartment and I've worked really hard to get it and she has not!!
