    Default Shoplifting at Target

I was caught shoplifting at Target two cds and a dvd totalling to 42.17. Its my first offense of any kind ever. The police were called and I was given a shoplifting misdemeanor thing with my court date on it. I am a 19 year old girl so I am an adult. I'm so embarrased and ashamed I can't tell my parents and I don' know what to do, I certainely don't want this on my record but I don't know what to do. Should I get a lawyer, and what happens at this court date thing? I mostly just don't want this on my record, but is that only possible if I get a lawyer? I'm really upset at myself. Please tell me what to do!

    Default Avoiding a Criminal Record

There may be diversion programs or sentencing alternatives available to you, particularly on a first offense, which would enable you to avoid a record. It would be helpful to at least consult a local criminal defense lawyer, to determine what your options are.
