Default Can You Take a 17-Year-Old on Vacation to Another State Without Parental Consent

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Missouri

I currently have a 17 year old minor residing in my home who will be 18 in August 2017. I have already contacted an attorney about what his legal gaurdians can do about the situation, and I'm aware that there's not much they can do about him living with us.

My question is, my family will be taking a vacation here shortly, and I will be bringing the boy as well. His parents will not give consent. We will be going out of state, and I'm worried that I can be charged with kidnapping. Is this the case?

Thank you so much in advance for your help.

"Not much" is not, nothing. I very strongly recommend that you get the permission of his parents or legal guardians before you do anything of the kind.

If his parents do not consent, then you should not take him on vacation. Find someone for him to stay with while you are gone. You are not a legal guardian and agree that if his parents want to do something, they can.

There is no "I will..." It's not your or his decision. He is not part of your legal family.

His parents will not give consent..
to the vacation. That makes no sense at all.

Tell the parents to come and get him as he is no longer welcome to stay with you. That may change their tune as they can again support him.

Why is he living with you and do his parents compensate you for supporting him?

You speak about the minor as having both parents and guardians. If a court has appointed guardians to care for him, due to the unwillingness or inability of his parents to do so, then you would normally be fine simply getting consent from the guardians.

Have your lawyer clarify the situation for you.
