Default After Hours Use of School Property and Amenities

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

So pretty simple question designed to help me obey the law. In my local area all parks and recreational natural areas close at sunset. Not a problem i totally understand it for criminal and safety reasons it is a must.

However behind my home is the local Highschool which has a track and football stadium that i have seen many people use during the day but after school hours with no noticeable repercussions. I work evening and so it is common for me to be out and about late at night. I have begun jogging in an effort to slim my waistline and improve overall health. since i am wanting to jog the best time is after work which happens to be around 11 at night. I am looking for a semi-secure lighted area for me to jog in i would like it to be semi secure meaning to me that in normal circumstances you wont have alot of cross traffic if people are there they are there for a reason.
The lighting is for several things, ensure my safety while running, allow others to easily observe me and more importantly my intentions so there is limited misunderstanding as to what i am doing. and allow me to see others that may approach. at this point its better safe than sorry.

I visited the track during the day and there were no signs forbidding entrance and no signs saying closed after dark or any timing related signage. there is also a fence around the track but there is no gate and nothing to bar entrance that i would have to circumvent to get inside. i could stroll in without having to climb a fence or open a gate or anything the gate stands wide open.

Would this be an acceptable place to jog. As i said i have not yet gone there after dark so i have not been warned away or anything and if warned not to be there i will definitely listen to the warning. But i want to make sure i wont get in trouble with the law if i attempt it. especially as the police warned me away from a local park after dark recently.

    any advice helps

    thanks

It's a school. There's an administration office open during school hours. Go in and ask for permission to use the facilities after hours. If you get told "no" then don't.

Use a little common sense here.

It's a local high school so you would ask permission at the local or regional board of education. They are the ones that make policy. But I doubt you will get permission.

While you may not have found any signs at the track/field, I would almost guarantee there are no trespassing sign at the entrances to the property. If your business is not related to school activity you have no business being on the property.

    Buy a treadmill.

I disagree. Most schools permit after hours use of the property during daylight hours. Children play on playgrounds, adults use tracks and may kick a ball around on a pitch of other field in an unorganized fashion. I've used both tracks and fields of schools after hours and have never encountered any issues or any no trespassing signs.

That said, wanting to use the track at 2300 is unlikely. it never hurts to ask but I find it highly unlikely.

and just to add to the others, I doubt the area will even be semi-lighted or have any security at all (especially if you can get in easily). And while cross traffic isn't a problem so is the fact that you would probably be there alone which in and of itself is dangerous. I agree with getting a treadmill or join a gym that is open 24 hours.

You can ask the school administration. My old high school has an indoor track in the new gym they built when I was in junior high (so not so new now). It's open to the public during the day. You just go in and ask. It's a small town so they generally know everyone. I went in there once when I was home on leave.

The track at our football field isn't ever locked and it's open. I went there and I used it before I went to basic so I could get in shape. No one said anything but again small town.

Best bet is to go ask and they will either tell you yes or no. If it's no, go find some other area to run in or join a 24 hour gym - or buy your own equipment.
