Default Does Graduating from High School Make You a Legal Adult

My question involves juvenile law in the State of Wisconsin

I am wondering if, once you graduate, are you considered and adult in the state of Wisconsin. I have tried googling it and have had little result. So I figured I would come here. Does anyone know? Are there other factors? or is it solely when you turn 18

    Thank you

The age of majority in Wisconsin is 18. Whether you have or have not graduated from high school is not a factor. If you graduate from high school when you are younger than 18, good for you, but it does not mean you are a legal adult. You still have to wait for age 18 for that status.

Wisconsin statute 938.02(1) defines “adult” as follows: “(1) “Adult" means a person who is 18 years of age or older, except that for purposes of investigating or prosecuting a person who is alleged to have violated any state or federal criminal law or any civil law or municipal ordinance, “adult" means a person who has attained 17 years of age.” So, you are an adult at age 18 except that you may be prosecuted for crimes as an adult at age 17. Graduation from high school is not relevant to whether you are an adult.

I have read that. If you are prosecuted for crimes as an adult at the age of 17, how does that play into the age of consent? Does it affect it?

No. The age of consent and the age of majority are two separate issues and have nothing to do with each other. Neither one has any affect on the other.

I mean directly relating to that you can be charged as an adult at the age of 17.Do those tie in? Meaning g if you were brought into court would the minor be treated as an adult, thus making the case difficult?

The state has the right to charge and try a 17 year old as an adult. Whether they will or will not do so is dependent on the facts of the specific situations.

Whether you have or have not graduated from high school has nothing to do with it. None of these factors affects the age of consent.
