Default How to Document Your Completion of Community Service

    Hey all

Recently got 20 hours community service and a $90 fine from evading responsibility and traveling too fast for conditions charge.

My court date was a couple weeks ago and they told me to come back at the end of this month.

Am I supposed to do the community service before I go back? And how do I get proof of doing community service without a paper from the court?

What state are you talking about?

I would assume they do want you to have your community service done before you return.
You should call the court and ask what they want for showing community service. Many have a log sheet for such that you get signed by the person you were working for. If not, I'd get the person you were working for to sign a statement of what dates/times you were working.

How are a bunch of strangers on the Internet supposed to know?

Ask someone at the court what you are supposed to do.

If that's what the court ordered you to do, then yes. We cannot check the court records for you.

Many courts / probation offices keep a list of approved community service providers, who should be able to document your hours to the satisfaction of the court. If you pick your own place to do community service, you can ask them to document the hours that you worked -- but we can't promise you that the court will approve of your choice or that it will find the documentation to be sufficient. Check with the court for its requirements.

Did you wait for paperwork after your last court appearance? What did it say? Whatever the judge ordered you to do, including the time frame within which to do it, would have been provided to you at that time. The clerk of court can give you another copy if you don't have it.

I'm in Connecticut. I didn't meet with a judge for my case, I talked with a lady in a room who never told me her title, and I don't believe i even got a name from her.

She didn't give me any type of paperwork whatsoever either, and no type of reminder for when I have to go back later this month which is why I was a bit confused after the meeting.

I don't know how you had a "court date" without appearing before a judge, but nevertheless if you contact the clerk of the court they will tell you what is in the record for your case.
