Default What is the Procedure for Emancipation of a Minor

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Tennessee. I'm 17 years old and am seeking help in applying for legal emancipation. I have a job, but haven't been there in about 2 weeks due to my mother requesting my managers take me off the schedule. My mother and I DO NOT get along and although I love her, I feel as though emancipation would be best. We havent been getting along for the last year and a half, and I basically take care of myself now. I get myself to and from work, wash my own clothes, buy my own groceries, pay my car insurance every 6 months, and buy anything I need with my own money. I'm basically emancipated now, but i don't know how to go about getting it done. I turn 18 in 6 months, and was wondering is it too late? I feel as though by being emancipated, I can work like I need to, and not have to rely on my mother to sign any papers I need, or control everything. I know being adult is far from easy, but I basically take care of myself now.But if I stay with her, my life will be harder because its at the hands of my mother. Please help! The only thing, she does for me is provide roof over my head, the rest is on me.By the way, I'm adopted. I was born in Ohio, when I become emancipated, will she still get a check for me, or will I get it?

To be emancipated, you have to be able to FULLY support yourself, including a roof over your head.

And even if you could financially do so (and I doubt that you could), you would be 18 by the time it went through the court system. You're better off just keeping your head down, focus on graduating high school (you ARE still in school, aren't you?), and the next 6 months will fly by.

Why did your mother ask your manager to take you off the schedule? How are your grades? What did you do or not do for your mother to do this. How long have you had the job ?

Can you pay your rent, utilities. food, transportation, clothes, health insurance, etc on your own with no help ?

You have to support yourself without help from anyone. What type of check does she receive? Is it child support ? Child support ends when a minor becomes emancipated. You have to have your mothers permission to be emancipated.
