My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Texas
I'm a nurse in a hospital. They offer moonlighting shifts that certain approved nurses can sign up and get paid for. To get approved you have to fill out some paperwork and go thru some hospital admin. However, not everyone is allowed to do these shifts, mainly foreign workers on visas. We're a tight group and like to help each other out so sometimes an approved nurse will sign up for a shift but have a foreign worker do the shift under the approved workers name. The paycheck goes to the approved worker, who then pays back the foreign worker. The foreign workers like to have extra income and send it back to family, so the approved nurses try to help them out. I'm thinking of starting to work these shifts and considering whether I'd offer the same deal to my foreign co-workers, but I'm unsure of the risks involved. I understand the ethics of it all and how it would be frowned upon by admin, but I have no clue as to the severity of the matter, if there's no law being broken and I'd get a slap on the wrist, or if I could lose my job, license or go to jail if caught.
Would appreciate any input.
