My lease ended in December 2016, so it turned to a month to month. Due to our financial situation rent did not get paid for some time. In February my landlord who lived out of state sent a letter/notice to vacate (NOT an eviction letter) by April 15th as he would be back in town shorty to possibly try and sell the house and make repairs etc. This was not a problem and he even told us ahead of time. The notice was just a formality. We were out of the house on Apr. 14th and in contact with the owner 24/7 and he had possesion of the keys when he landed the morning of the 15th. I told him carpets needed to be cleaned (didn't have time because of work) and that we are more than willing to pay for the cost. Just let us know who and the amount. He is now claiming they are damaged because his personal Bissell carpet cleaner did not clean them. Instead of just hiring someone like I offered. Anyway, can he file an eviction even though we were out of the house by the requested date? Or will it just be something for unpaid rent and damages? What can I expect on my credit?
