Default Is There a Blacklist for Banking Jobs

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Pennsylvania. I was recently unfairly terminated from my Teller job in a bank in Pennsylvania, and I was wondering if there is an actual list for no hires. My offense was actually one that should've been a write-up, not termination, and now I am worried that they placed me on a federal no hire list for banking, and would like to know before submitting multiple applications for a new position in a bank.

Don't think there is any "federal" list for bank tellers if you didn't end up facing criminal charges.
Other positions, particularly investment advisors, have specific background checks to that industry.

Of course, no bank in their right mind would hire you without checking your former employers.

Okay, let's put this to bed right now.

I have been in some form of HR since 1979. I have been in multiple industries. If I haven't worked in a given industry it's a darned sure thing that I know someone who has. I am in close contact with other HR personnel in just about any industry you can think of and yes, we talk to each other. This includes attendance at national HR conventions (yes, they have them).

Never ONCE have I ever been privy to or heard about or been referred to or in any way encountered any mythical "blacklist", if by that you mean a secret list accessible only to HR and hiring managers, of people that they have all agreed not to hire. SUCH LISTS ARE MYTHS. THEY DO NOT EXIST. IN ANY INDUSTRY.

Now, that doesn't mean that future employers won't contact your past employer, and it doesn't mean that they can't find out you were fired. They can, and they can find out why you were fired. (And it's only your opinion that it should have been a write-up and not a termination; short of a union or other contract that expressly says otherwise, it is always up to the employer what form or discipline to use. Always. The law does NOT spell out "X, Y and Z must be write ups - A, B and C can go straight to termination".)

But no, there is no Federal blacklist in the banking industry. Or any other industry.

Well it's not a "secret list only available to HR", but there are indeed blacklists by the regulators in many industries and mandated and voluntary reports to such.
Believe me, part of what *I* do is handle expungement requests from the financial services background records.

I didn't say there wasn't any kind of regulation over hiring; just that the giant conspiracies so many people seem to imagine fall into the realm with unicorns and leprechans.

That overstates it. While blacklisting is very uncommon and not typically done on a large scale, blacklisting can and does occur. I’ve seen instances of it myself. However, I agree that there is no blacklist for banking jobs maintained by the federal government, any banking organization, or to my knowledge informally among banks.

On an individual basis yes, I agree. I have never said otherwise. I am speaking SOLELY of the large-scale conspiratorial blacklisting that so many people believe in.

It is called a prohibition. Federal insurance agencies publish these lists monthly. If you are on this list you are not bondable, and not permitted to work in banking. If you made this list, you would know it.
