Angry What Are Your Rights After Your Landlord Sells a Rental Home

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Texas. I have been living in this house for almost 2 years. Started off with a lease but the owner didn't renew it last year. He came to me about a month ago along with a real estate agent and told me he is going to sell the house but ONLY to an investor , so that my 8 year old daughter and I can continue living here. ( I am a 66 yr. old widow on a fixed income , my daughter was adopted when she was born before my husband passed away ) So , now the real estate agent called me and told me that someone was going to come look at the house , I asked if it was an investor and he said NO !!
This landlord is not from the USA and is very wishy washy , threatening to raise my rent one time because the hot water heater went out . He hired these 2 shade tree mechanics to level the house and they didn't have a clue what to do , raised it 8 inches on ONE end so the walls in our bedrooms buckled out and one wall in my room is separated from the floor by an inch , there's a bad rodent problem , I can't close the garage door because he had these same guys put 2 pieces of wood on it to hold it together and stuff started flying off of it. I pointed out to him in front of the real estate agent that the ceiling in the garage is falling down and a BIG piece had fallen on my brand new car but he doesn't fix anything.
I do NOT have the funds to move right now IF he sells it and it will take at least 6 months or more for me to save it up. Since I have a witness with the real estate agent , if he sells it and tells me I have to move , after promising me that he wouldn't sell to anyone but an investor ..what are my rights ?

Default Re: What Are Your Rights After Your Landlord Sells a Rental Home

Your rights vis-a-vis the new owner are the same as those you have with your landlord. If you have a lease term, you can continue to rent through the end of the lease term and negotiate for renewal or extension. If you are month-to-month, then either you or your landlord may give a month's notice to termiate the tenancy.

As for the condition of the premises, you have rights to repair and extermination. They apply with the existing landlord and with any future landlord. Read this.
