My question involves name change laws in the State of: Delaware.
I got divorced 9 years ago and suffered a massive stroke right after the divorce decree was issued. Somehow I managed to change my name back to my maiden name on both my driver's license and passport without changing it at the SS office. I only now realized this because I lost my SS card and wanted to order a new one but they couldn't verify my name. I always use my passport for citizenship proof so it wasn't strange for me to not find my SS card when I looked for it. I honestly don't know how this happened as that entire year from my stroke is a blur. I would like to rectify this situation ASAP but I am terrified of going to the SS office with no identification with my married name. I have my divorce decree that says I can resume my maiden name, birth certificate with my maiden name on it and all ID with maiden name but nothing other than the Divorce Decree with my married name. What do I do? Will I get in trouble? This is causing me a great amount of stress and grief as I just want to have my maiden name and no longer have anything in my failed marriage name. Please help!
