Question Can a Minor Move Out with a Guardian's Consent

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Alabama. Okay I'm 17 and I want to move from Alabama to Illinois. I'm not moving for college. I'm moving just because I want to. Now if my guardian says yes can I legally move to Illinois? If you need more information let me know. Thanks

While you are a minor, you live where your parent or legal guardian says you live. If your guardian says you can move to Illinois, then it is legal for you to move to Illinois.

However, you may find that things like enrolling in school, signing leases and other contracts become a problem unless your legal guardian is willing to sign on your behalf. While it may be legal for you to move out with permission, it is also legal for landlords and school districts and utility companies to refuse to enter into a contract with a minor.

So would I need my guardian to sign a piece of paper? Or how does it work?

Okay the story is I'm wanting to move to Illinois because I know a family up there and I've known them for years. So has my guardian. I've been up there and visited but I would like to move there. If I moved I would have my guardians permission. And I would be staying with that family till I get on my feet which shouldn't take but a month or two. Not exactly sure what information you need haha. Let me know if you need more.

It will take far longer than a month or two for a minor to "get on your feet", if by that you mean establish yourself so that you no longer need any assistance. But for what it's worth, in the interim before you are a legal adult and can do such things for yourself, the family that you are living with will need to have legal authority to do such things as enroll you in school or get you medical care. That will most likely require a court order.

It would really be much easier if you waited until you are 18. You can then sign your own contracts and enroll in your own health care and will not need someone else to front you.
