    Default Ohio Emancipation

I'm a 16 year old girl going on 17 in 1 day and i live with my mom. My mom and dad broke up when i was seven and since then i have been treated badly. I feel like all she does is pay attention to her new boyfriend and not to me. Sometimes she doesn;t even notice i'm here. All she does is smoke marijauana and get high. About 6 times a day. She parties all the time and she always verbal abuses me. She doesn't even care that my birthday is coming up. She thinks that it is okay for her to take my car when she isn't the one who paid for it. She thinks that whenever she gets tired of me she can send me to my fathers house who lives in cincinnati. He recently got out of jail. I have always done everything for myself and i want to get emancipated. I pay my own phone bill, go to school, pay my own car insurance and i have a boyfriend who treats me better than her. So we want to get married and i know i'm young but we can do it. He also has a job so tell me can i get emancipated on these terms? I'm tired of being verbally abused and told wat to do with my money. Someone please tell me. Can i do it?

Ohio permits emancipation through active duty military service or lawful marriage. If either ends before the minor reaches the age of majority, the minor reverts to the care and custody of his or her parents.

But...to get married at your age you need parental permission.

There is little you can do about emancipation. If your being abused (does not appear to be case here) you can file an abuse report with CPS. Other than that you make the best of things until you turn 18

I am also 17 and living in ohio. I want to be emancipated for several reasons. First there is the fact that I have already been removed from one parent to another, because of verbal, and a little physical abuse, also there was alot of neglect involved. And now living with another parent, there is even more neglect. I have very decent grades and am in the top 10% of my class, I have my own job, but my parent and their spose refuse to give take me because they say they are too tired, even though they are the ones who prefered me to get a job to help pay for my things. They do not pay for my food, my driving classes, my school fees, and other minor things, I support myself finacially or when I need something, and the spouse of my parent refuses to feed me. I've recently decided to become a veggitarian and every since, I've had to wait from pay check to pay check to buy my food to keep in the house because they are constantly saying "If you don't eat what I've made your not hungry", they also abuse me verbally and neglect to even acknowledge when I am around. I'm wondering if there are any acceptions to the emancipation laws in ohio, because why should I have to suffer because a parent doesn't wish to do their job as a parent? If anyone has any information on this please let me know! Thank You

1 Post your own thread instead of tacking your requests onto a two year old one, you will get more answers.

2 I will address your post one point at a time, but understand that Ohio (as you read above) only emancipates for marriage or active duty military:

I am also 17 and living in ohio. I want to be emancipated for several reasons. First there is the fact that I have already been removed from one parent to another, because of verbal, and a little physical abuse, also there was alot of neglect involved. And now living with another parent, there is even more neglect.
If you really feel you are being abused and neglected, contact CPS. Also see my comments below.

I have very decent grades and am in the top 10% of my class, I have my own job, but my parent and their spose refuse to give take me because they say they are too tired, even though they are the ones who prefered me to get a job to help pay for my things.
There is no law that requires a parent to chauffeur you around. Take a cab or the bus. Even if you were emancipated, they still won't give you a ride to work, so I don't see how you think emancipation will help that.

They do not pay for my food, my driving classes, my school fees, and other minor things, I support myself finacially or when I need something, and the spouse of my parent refuses to feed me. I've recently decided to become a veggitarian and every since, I've had to wait from pay check to pay check to buy my food to keep in the house because they are constantly saying "If you don't eat what I've made your not hungry",
They are paying for your food, just not the food you want. Your parents are required to provide food, clothing, and shelter. The law doesn't say you get to dictate what those consist of. It doesn't matter if you are a vegetarian, or want to eat Froot Loops at every meal, they are not required to provide anything other than nutritious meals. Neither do they have to give you Designer Clothes, they can dress you in Wal Mart jeans. Still not neglect.

Do you pay rent? Health insurance? Electric? Water? Trash pickup? For the last 90 days, has every scrap of food you have consumed been from you and not your parents, or someone else? If any of those is a 'no' then you are not self supporting.

they also abuse me verbally and neglect to even acknowledge when I am around. I'm wondering if there are any acceptions to the emancipation laws in ohio, because why should I have to suffer because a parent doesn't wish to do their job as a parent? If anyone has any information on this please let me know!
No exceptions. From what you are posting here, your parents are appearing to do their jobs. Unless you get married or join the active duty military, you cannot be emancipated. Of the two, I would suggest the military. You can sign for only two years. Marriage can last much longer, even when you don't wish it to.

ETA: this is not a slam on you, but I cannot believe that the education system is so poor. You are in the top 10% of your class, and your spelling, grammar, and sentence structure are poor.
