I am a registered driver in the state of Colorado and was recently on a road trip with some friends. While I was driving through Idaho, I was pulled over and issued a speeding citation for driving 90 in a 75 mph zone. The ticket simply requires that I pay a $62 fine and makes no mention of being assessed points on my license. Is it merely assumed that I will receive points and how is the transfer handled between the two states? Further more, the state of Idaho allows you to take a defensive driving course to reduce the points on your record by 3 points. Can I utilize this to help reduce the risk of increased insurance (if indeed I am being assessed points on my record)? Finally, the officer mentioned that should I fail to pay the ticket it is an offense for which I wont be expedited but should I return to Idaho, I would have a warrant for arrest. Would simply ignoring the ticket and avoiding Idaho be an option?
