Default Can Parents Report You to the Police for Harassment of Their Teenaged Child

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas

Can the parents of an 18 year old file a police report on me for harassment?
I wanted to continue my friendship with their son who I knew for 10 months before he got busy and had to stop mowing my lawn.

He was 17 the last time I saw him. His parents told me to leave him alone and find other friends when I attempted to contact him on Facebook. They threatened to file a police report against me in November.

I know that his 18th birthday was at the beginning of March. Could I still get into legal trouble if I contacted him?

Sure, his parents can report that they believe you are harassing their son. Whether their so will agree with that contention or not is something we cannot know. Ultimately, it will likely be up to him as to whether you are harassing him or not.

Of course, if you contact him and he agrees to maintain that friendship in spite of his parents, he could find himself out on the street with only that which his parents allow him to take with him.

How old are you? They had every right to file a report when he was 17 yes. Now that he's 18 you could contact him - and his parents could kick him out for talking to you.

Is it worth all the trouble to be friends with this kid? What's really going on here?

I think he is my 3rd or 4th cousin. His last name and my mom's maiden name are the same. His dad has the same name as one of my mom's cousins. His dad and my mom's cousin are even from the same city. They're both from Corpus Christi.

Again is it worth all the trouble to be around this kid? 3rd or 4th cousin? So what? Lol. Just because you have the same last name doesn't mean you're related. There are a lot of people who I have found who have my maiden name and we aren't closely related or probably even related at all.

Stay away from the kid. Find new friends.

I have not contacted his parents or him in 4 and a half months. Would it really be considered harassment if I sent him a message on Facebook.

    It might be.

The best way to avoid legal entanglements is ... DO NOT MAKE ANY CONTACT AT ALL!!!!

Sure any citizen can report you to the police for any reason even if they suspect you of committing a crime and they can press charges against you for harassment and even ask for a restraining order. You may get a notice to appear in court if charges are pressed or it may be just a warning and a restraining/no contact order. It wold be wise to retain a lawyer if charges are being pressed against you or ask for a Public Defender.

For now i would not have any contact with the teenager or their family. If you continue to contact them they could charge you for violation of the restraining order and more chance of them wanting to press charges. I would just move on especially if they said you were harassing them.

OP, please explain why it's so important that you contact this person.
