What if one has proof that an employer discriminated against employee for exercising compensation rights? Would that person be able to file civil action suit for damages? If so, how much? Would that also include compensation for pain & suffering?

You mean, worker's compensation rights?
Yes, WC rights.
Missouri law provides,
You should seek help from a lawyer to pursue any such claim.Quoting Missouri Workers Compensation Law, § 287.780 - Discrimination because of exercising compensation rights prohibited - civil action for damages.
The statute does not require discharge. It requires only discrimination for exercise of the injured worker's W/C rights. I would suggest contacting a local lawyer about the time limits for taking action against the employer.
