Default Moving Out at 16 with Parental Consent

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Alabama

I am 16 years old. Last year, I was homeschooled and doubled up on my classes and returned to public school this year as a senior. I have been accepted to a university about forty five minutes away with a full scholarship. My parents fully support my decision to move out on my own, as I will be 17 when the school year starts. Today, my mom and i visited the apartment complex that i want to live in next year and everything was going well until the man who runs the apartments found out my age. He was not positive but thought there might be legal issues regarding me moving out from my parents so young and that he was not sure if he would let me live there as it might not be legal. My parents would be signing the lease and paying the majority of my bills but now we are not sure if it is even legal for me to move out. Can someone help? Emancipation is not an option.

There is absolutely no legal issue with your moving out at 17, or even 16, as long as your parents consent. As I have often told teenagers who are looking for emancipation, until you are 18 you live where your parents say you live. If your parents say you live alone (or with a roommate) closer to school and not at home, then that's where you live. It is absolutely legal and don't let anyone tell you differently.

However, I think you will find that this is not the only landlord who will have an issue with renting to a minor. And that's legal too. He's not required to.

Oops, I knew that. Sorry, missed the state.

But the rest of what I said still holds.
