My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Virginia
Hello my question to anybody for a set of answers involves AAFES. I owed a debt on my Military Star card after I separated the military after 10 years. I was not allowed to pay online payments on my account because when I was overseas in Korea they would try to take the money before it was in the account. So when I separated I paid 640 to help knock down the account balance to 1200 dollars. I no longer had base access and could not pay online. So I let it go and wasn't surprised when they garnished my income taxes I was hoping it would settle the debt. However for the next 4 years they have taken a 1630.00 income tax return, 1263.00 income tax return, 879.00 income tax return. and last year 250.00. The total of 4,022.00 dollars for a debt of 1265.00 dollars at a interest rate of 18%.
Today I received a certified letter for wage garnishment for 15% of my income for a debt of 1800.00 dollars. So being angry that I already paid double into it and the debt should have been settled a the collection agency said that I had to pay monthly payments of 210.00 and a down payment or they would have to proceed to garnishment of my paycheck. So what I want to know is simple is this legal and is there anything I can do to fix this problem since I just paid 2x the debt on the credit card and now they are asking for 1800 dollars more. What should I do? Any advice will be good advice thank you.
