Default What Are the Rights of a Tenant if a Landlord Wants to Renovate the Rental Property

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New York

Hi everybody. I just have a quick question. Im currently renting an apartment in NY. I get help with my rent from a housing agency and the worker came by today saying that my landlord wanted to renovate and they would need to find me a new place to live.

What is the legality in this? They cannot simply kick me out and make me move to "renovate" correct? I've read elsewhere online that if those renovations are not to bring the place up to code, I can simply refuse them? Or that while they do it they need to help pay for my temporary lodging?

I've lived there nearly two years and have never had a problem paying rent. Always on time.

Can someone give me some advice please?

If they want me out, they need to do it legally correct?

What are my rights in this situation?

Default Re: Supposedly Landlord Wants to Renovate - What Are My Rights As a Tenant

Are you in NYC or elsewhere in the state?
    Rent controlled or not?
Do you have a written lease with a specific duration that has time left? If yes, when does it expire?
If yes, are there any provisions regarding the landlord renovating the apartment?
If no lease, then your tenancy can likely be terminated by the owner with proper notice.
The "housing agency"- what housing agency?
What rules and regulations did you agree to when you accepted aid from the housing agancy?

You'll need to cover all those questions before you can determine your "rights."
