Default How to Make Unwanted House Guests Move Out

A homeowner in Virginia was approached by a family member who had a friend who needed a place to stay. The homeowner agreed to let the friend stay in their guest house. The agreement was that the friend would not pay any rent, and would move out within two months. The friend is still in the house more than two months later and shows no sign of preparing to move out. Under Virginia law, how can they get the person out of their home?

Default Re: How to Make Unwanted House Guests Move Out

If the person won't move out voluntarily, it looks like the best approach to remove the person is an ejectment (eviction) action. It would make sense for the homeowner to consult a landlord-tenant lawyer for assistance, as sometime deadbeats are very good at throwing up obstacles and even making counter-complaints when served with eviction actions.
