    If you are renting a home in New Jersey and it is sold in a short sale, how long can you remain in residence?

    Although it is predicated upon the owner's financial distress, a short sale is no different than any other sale of the property -- the buyer takes the property subject to the lease. If the buyers want to terminate the tenancy, they may do so at the conclusion of the lease term or, for a month-to-month tenancy, by giving 30 days notice.
